Eat Local Month Spotlight on Caz

Meet Caz Osborne

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – our passionate people are the true ingredients that make Eat Local Month so special. As we prepare for this year’s event, we’re excited to share the stories of those who’ve been a vital part of the recipe since 2011. This week, we’re serving up a spotlight on the incredible Caz Osborne.Meet Caz Osborne

Tell us a little about your business?

Scenic Rim Cooking Classes offers small, hands-on cooking classes that celebrate the incredible local produce of the region. I’m passionate about teaching people how to create simple, delicious meals using fresh, seasonal ingredients – many of which are sourced from our talented local producers. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced cook, my interactive classes are designed to be fun, supportive, and tailored to individual needs. More than just learning recipes, it’s about sharing knowledge, meeting new people, and enjoying the social and joyful side of cooking. My goal is to inspire confidence in the kitchen and help others discover the joy of making and sharing great food.

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?

I love camels so much and I dearly want two of my own, but hubby says we have enough animals on the farm and as I’m not about to get rid of my horses, nor he his cattle, I have to keep dreaming. But would you believe I also eat meat from the camels. Summer Land Camels supplies me with camel joy along with meat and cheese.

When were you first involved in Eat Local Month?

2013, I had a café in Boonah, Harry’s Café and over the first weekend of Eat Local Week we hosted a long breakfast at the café. Complete with sensational breakfast menu, newspapers, great background music and even a visit from Harry. He was the café ambassador a gorgeous white moodle.

How has your participation evolved over the years?

From that first breakfast, we did the same the following year. I sold the business and then got into making chutney’s relishes jams and pate’s and took part in three Winter Harvest Festivals at Aratula. Once the cooking classes started in 2017, I ran cooking classes that incorporated produce from our clever artisans and producers out here in the beautiful Scenic Rim.

What do you love most about Eat Local Month?

It’s jam packed with something for everyone. ELM brings people together to celebrate what we do out here in the Scenic Rim. I love seeing people enjoying what our chefs produce and we all learn so much about our produce it’s a great agritourism event.

What does this year’s Eat Local Month look like to you?

This is my first year of not running an event. Last year I was fortunate enough to host The Homestead Kitchen Stage, so I’m back there in 2025. I am very excited, we have a couple of new chefs and a clever component that I don’t want give too much away about, other than to say it will educate!

What event are you most keen to attend?

Anything to do with camels, food, scenery, vino and the beautiful outdoors here in the Scenic Rim. I’m a massive fan of Jack at Blume and Daniel at Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm so I’ll definitely be going to their event/s. Bring it on, I’m ready.

We’re so excited to share more stories like Caz’s and celebrate the passionate chefs, farmers and producers behind it all! Catch Caz on stage at Winter Harvest Festival, 28 June.

We are counting down until June, have you got your tickets yet?
